I Have a Dream

I have a dream that one day butterflies fill the corridors of the Strand building

I have a dream that for one day every month, everyone dances a conga to work

That students swap laptops for guitars

That spontaneous song breaks out in every ward of the hospital on Denmark Hill

That hot air balloons fill the skies above Somerset House

I have a dream that one day Professor Dizzie Rascal teaches poetry on campus over lunch

I have a dream that one day doodling and daydreaming will be celebrated as superpowers

That creativity will be practiced by everyone, everywhere

That students, staff and faculty will all live creative lives

That stories replace email, that we communicate face to face

I have a dream that one day Bush House becomes a world class play space, with dozens of rooms for ideas and debate

I have a dream that one day life at Kings is unashamedly fun

That creativity and logic are celebrated equally for their contributions to great learning

That women and men sit side by side across senior management

That everyone’s voice is heard, all 33,000, loudly and clearly

I have a dream that one day the Dean of Law will tap dance through the fountains at Somerset House

I have a dream that one day the cleaners are beatboxing

That economists sing in four part harmonies

That the geographers and urban planners paint new cities in rainbow colours

That the nurses and midwives plot movies over lunch

I have a dream that one day the catering team will make lunch while composing poetry

I have a dream that one day psychologists play hide and seek

That English professors will write pop songs

That war studies students sing about peace

That librarians play trombones and xylophones; no more quiet please

I have a dream that one day sculptures crop up in corridors

I have a dream that one day smiles and new friendships will become the currency of Kings

That academic achievement is measured in new ideas, in innovative thinking

That game playing is the game changer

That magic is encouraged everywhere, rabbits from hats, a bunch of flowers

I have a dream that one day the Principal is playing the drums in her office

I have a dream that one day a porter has baked a cake in the shape of a giraffe

That guerrilla gardeners are growing geraniums everywhere

That there’s a bouncy castle for meetings at Guys

That PJ Harvey is singing in the ladies loos

I have a dream…
